What Is the TI-84 Calculator Online?

The TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus CE are the graphing calculators most students meet in algebra, precalculus, statistics, and AP courses. They are also expensive, easy to leave at home, and prone to dying mid-homework on a flat battery.

This online TI-84 Calculator solves that. You get a working TI-84 graphing calculator online by just opening the page on a laptop or Chromebook, and you get a working online calculator with the same button positions and menu structure you practice in class. If you already know where Y=, WINDOW, STAT, and 2ND live, nothing here will surprise you.

TI-84 Calculator handles your everyday work: plotting function graphs, solving linear and quadratic equations, running regressions on data lists, evaluating derivatives and integrals numerically, and working with matrices and complex numbers. Everything runs in the browser, so there is no TI-84 emulator download to manage and no install permissions to ask your school IT for.

Both Students and Teachers use it for their own purposes. Teachers use it to project a shared screen. In contrast, Students use it as a backup when the physical device is in a locker. Engineers and analysts also use it for quick calculations without hunting for hardware. It is free, and it stays free.

TI-84 Calculator

Key Features of Our TI-84 Calculator Online

A graphing-style TI-84 Calculator supports a wide range of mathematical tasks. What you can do depends on which functions the specific implementation supports — but common workflows include the following.

Graphing Functions

Plot multiple functions at once and compare them on the same coordinate plane. You can use zoom presets to adjust the viewing window or do it manually, then trace along a curve to read exact input/output values. The calculator covers the full range of what a TI-84 Plus CE draws and supports function graphing in rectangular form, parametric graphing, polar graphing, and sequence graphing.

Find roots and zeros, locate a maximum or minimum, calculate slope at a point, and generate a function table alongside the graph to check values numerically. For visual learners, seeing a polynomial equation and its function table side by side is often the moment the concept clicks.

Scientific and Advanced Math

Beyond graphing, this TI-84 emulator works as a full scientific calculator. TI-84 Calculator users get exponents, radicals, fractions, logarithms, absolute value, and factorials, plus scientific notation, engineering notation, and normal notation display modes.

It handles real numbers and imaginary numbers, complex arithmetic in both rectangular form and polar form, degree and radian modes, and numerical equation solving for expressions that do not factor cleanly.

Statistical Analysis

Enter data lists and run the standard statistics workflow. For your ease, you can calculate mean, median, mode, and standard deviation with one-variable stats. Fit a model with linear regression, quadratic regression, exponential, or logarithmic regression. Work with probability distributions, including normal, binomial, and t-distributions.

On the plotting side, you get histograms, box plots, and scatter plots, which cover most of what an intro statistics or AP Statistics course asks for.

Easy Access and Device Compatibility

The TI-84 Calculator is responsive, so the keypad scales down cleanly on a phone and up on a classroom projector. It runs on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android. No account, no email capture, and no paywall for any function.

If a Texas Instruments calculator online is what you searched for, this is the version that works everywhere you already have a browser.

How to Use the TI-84 Calculator Online

Our online TI-84 Calculator is built around common mathematical workflows.

  • Open the calculator. It loads directly on this page. Nothing to install.
  • Type your expression. Click the keys with a mouse, tap them on a touchscreen, or use your keyboard. The layout matches the physical TI-84, so muscle memory carries over.
  • Press ENTER to calculate. Results appear on the home screen exactly as they would on the device.
  • To graph, press Y=. Enter one or more functions, then press GRAPH. Use WINDOW to set your axis range or ZOOM for a quick standard view.
  • To analyse a graph, press 2ND then TRACE. From the CALC menu, you can find zeros, intersections, maximum and minimum points, derivatives, and definite integrals.
  • For statistics, press STAT. Choose Edit to enter your data lists, then CALC to run the regression or summary statistics you need.

A note on resetting: on the physical device, people often search for how to reset a TI-84 after a mode gets stuck. Here it is simpler. Refresh the page and the calculator returns to its default state.

Common TI-84 Calculator Problems — and How to Fix Them

Run into trouble with your TI-84 calculator online? These are the four issues students search for most — each one has a quick fix, and we have written a full step-by-step guide for every one. See our TI-84 calculator guides for the full collection.

Graph not showing? The usual culprits are a deselected function or a wrong window range. Fix your TI-84 graph step by step →

Stuck on “Validating OS”? A firmware loop you can escape in about five minutes. See the 5-minute fix →

Decimals instead of fractions? One keypress converts any answer back to a fraction. Get fractions back →

Calculator shows “1” instead of the answer? You probably used = instead of calculating. Fix it instantly →

Keyboard Shortcuts and Input Tips

You don’t have to click every key with a mouse. Most functions map to your physical keyboard, which is faster once you know the layout.

  • Numbers and basic operators — type directly: +, -, *, /, and digits work as expected.
  • Enter runs the calculation, same as ENTER on the device.
  • Backspace deletes the last character; Delete clears forward.
  • Arrow keys move the cursor on the home screen and navigate menus, graphs, and the STAT list editor.
  • Parentheses ( and ) open and close exactly like the physical keys — useful for nested expressions without hunting for the button.
  • Caret ^ raises to a power, so 2^5 behaves like pressing the exponent key.
  • x on your keyboard does not automatically become the variable X inside an equation — use the on-screen X, T,θ,n key or the shortcut shown in the calculator itself so the graphing engine reads it correctly.

A few habits make the online TI-84 calculator noticeably faster to use:

  • Chain calculations with ANS instead of retyping a result. Press 2ND then (-) to pull the last answer into a new expression, just like on hardware.
  • When graphing more than one function, toggle a line on or off from the Y= screen instead of deleting and retyping it.
  • Use MODE early in a session to set degrees or radians before you start trigonometry, so you’re not correcting answers after the fact.

If a key combination doesn’t respond, check that your browser tab is focused and that no extension is intercepting keyboard shortcuts — some ad blockers and productivity extensions capture number-row keys.

Note: most standardized tests (SAT, ACT, AP) require the physical handheld device during the actual exam — this simulator is built for practice, homework, and classroom learning, not as an exam-day substitute.

Where the online version wins

It costs nothing, loads in seconds, never runs out of battery, and is on whatever device you are already holding. Screen size on a laptop beats the physical display by a wide margin, which helps when you are reading a dense graph.

Where the physical calculator wins

The Free TI-84 Calculator works offline and, more importantly, is approved by testing bodies. The SAT, ACT, AP exams, and IB assessments permit specific approved hardware models and do not allow internet-connected devices. If you have an exam coming up, practise on this to learn the menus, but bring the approved physical device on test day, and confirm the current policy with your teacher or testing centre.

On accuracy

This is a browser-based TI-84 calculator alternative. It covers the functions listed above and behaves the way the hardware does in normal use, but it is an independent tool and some behaviour may differ from a physical unit. Treat it as a strong everyday substitute rather than an identical clone.

TI-84 Calculator Online: Supported Math Functions

Algebra and Equations

Simplify expressions, expand and evaluate polynomials, and solve linear equations, quadratic equations, and polynomial equations numerically. Find roots and zeros graphically or through the solver. Work with fractions, exponents, and radicals in the form your textbook uses. For anyone treating this as an algebra calculator, TI-84 Calculator conventions apply throughout, including implied multiplication and the order of operations.

Trigonometry and Calculus

Full trigonometry support: sine, cosine, tangent, and the inverse trigonometric functions, in degrees or radians. Convert between the two from the MODE menu.

For calculus, compute numerical derivatives and definite integrals, examine limits by evaluating a function table as it approaches a value, and use the graph screen to identify slope, maximum, minimum, and points of inflection.

Statistics and Probability

One-variable and two-variable statistics, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, variance, and quartiles. Regression models including linear regression, quadratic, cubic, exponential, logarithmic, and sinusoidal. Probability tools cover permutations, combinations, random number generation, and the main distributions with their cumulative and inverse forms. Data analysis output can be plotted immediately as histograms, box plots, or statistical plots.

Matrices and Complex Numbers

Create and edit matrices, then run matrix operations including addition, matrix multiplication, transpose, determinant, inverse matrix, and reduced row echelon form. Solve systems of equations by augmenting a matrix and reducing it.

Complex numbers are handled natively. Switch between rectangular form and polar form, take the modulus and argument, and perform complex arithmetic without dropping into a separate tool.

Sequences and Advanced Graphing

Define explicit and recursive sequences and graph them in SEQ mode. Plot parametric equations for motion and path problems, and polar equations using polar coordinates for curves like roses, cardioids, and spirals. List operations let you transform a data list, apply a function element by element, or build one list from another, which is useful for mathematical modelling and STEM calculations where the raw data needs shaping first.

Common TI-84 Calculator Tasks, Step by Step

These are the tasks people search for most. Each one takes under a minute once you know the sequence.

Solve a linear equation

Press Y=, enter both sides of the equation as separate functions, then GRAPH. Use 2ND → TRACE → intersect and confirm the two curves to find where they cross. That intersection is your solution.

Find the roots or zeros of a quadratic equation

Enter the equation under Y=, press GRAPH, then 2ND → TRACE → zero. Set a left bound, a right bound, and a guess near the root. Repeat for a second root if the parabola crosses the x-axis twice.

Run a linear regression on a data set

Press STAT → Edit, enter your x-values in L1 and y-values in L2. Press STAT → CALC → LinReg(ax+b), then ENTER. The slope, intercept, and correlation coefficient appear on the home screen. Full LinReg(ax+b) walkthrough →

Calculate the standard deviation and mean

With your data in L1, press STAT → CALC → 1-Var Stats, select L1, and press ENTER. Scroll down to see the mean, standard deviation, and the five-number summary.

Find the inverse of a matrix

Press 2ND → MATRIX, choose Edit, and enter your matrix dimensions and values. Return to the home screen, insert the matrix name, press x⁻¹, then ENTER.

Evaluate a derivative at a point

From the graph screen, press 2ND → TRACE → dy/dx, move to the x-value you want, and press ENTER. For a symbolic numerical derivative on the home screen, use MATH → nDeriv(.

Calculate a definite integral

From the graph screen, press 2ND → TRACE → ∫f(x)dx, set your lower and upper bounds, and press ENTER. The calculator shades the area and returns the value.

Switch between degrees and radians

Press MODE, arrow down to the Degree/Radian line, highlight your choice, and press ENTER. Every trig calculation after this point uses the new setting.

Convert a complex number between rectangular and polar form

On the home screen, enter the number, then use 2ND → ANGLE and select ▶Rect or ▶Polar depending on the direction you need.

Graph a system of equations and find the solution

Enter each equation under Y=, graph them together, and use the intersect tool from the CALC menu; it’s the same process as solving a single linear equation, but read where all relevant curves meet.

Hypothesis Testing on the TI-84

Press STAT, arrow to TESTS, and choose the test that matches your data — Z-Test when the population standard deviation is known, or T-Test when you are working from a sample. Enter your data or summary statistics, set the alternative hypothesis, and choose Calculate to see the test statistic and p-value.

RREF on the TI-84 (Reduced Row Echelon Form)

Press 2ND → MATRIX, arrow to MATH, and choose rref(. Enter your augmented matrix, close the bracket, and press ENTER — the calculator returns the matrix in reduced row echelon form, so you can read the solution of the system straight from the result.

TI-84 Calculator Models Compared

Not every “TI-84” is the same calculator, and the differences matter for what you’re allowed to use and what you can do with it.

TI-84 Plus Silver Edition

TI-84 Plus CE

TI-84 Plus CE Python

The practical differences that actually affect you:

  • Colour vs monochrome changes how graphs and plots look, not what they calculate. A regression line is the same regression line either way.
  • Python only matters if your course specifically teaches it on-calculator. If you’re not asked to write Python for class, the non-Python CE covers everything else identically.
  • Memory and speed are mostly invisible day to day unless you’re running large programs or storing many saved graphs.
  • Menus are nearly identical across the whole family. If you learn the workflow here, it transfers to a TI-83 Plus, a TI-84 Plus, or a TI-84 Plus CE without relearning anything.

This calculator is modelled on the TI-84 Plus CE, since that’s the version most schools currently issue. Still, the functions and menu paths match closely enough across the family that practising here helps regardless of which physical model you own.

Who Can Use This TI-84 Calculator Online?

Students

High school and college students in coursework can use this TI-84 calculator for algebra, precalculus, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, physics, chemistry, and engineering. Useful as a digital graphing calculator for homework and as practice for anyone preparing for a test where a GDC calculator is expected.

Teachers

Project the calculator during a lesson so the whole class sees the exact keystrokes. It removes the “I couldn’t see which button you pressed” problem, and it works the same in an in-person classroom or a remote session.

Adult Learners and GED Students

If you are returning to study and do not want to buy hardware for a single course, a free online TI-84 calculator covers the same ground for you.

Professionals

Engineers, analysts, lab technicians, and anyone who needs a quick regression or a plotted function without opening a spreadsheet.

Calculator Policies for SAT, ACT, AP and GED

Policies vary by test, and they change. Always confirm the current rules on the official test provider’s site before exam day — what follows is a general guide, not a guarantee.

SAT

The College Board allows most graphing calculators, including the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus CE. Calculators with internet connectivity, camera, or wireless capability are not permitted, and calculator use is now integrated throughout the digital SAT math section rather than restricted to one part.

ACT

ACT permits the TI-84 Calculator family under its standard calculator policy. As with the SAT, any device with wireless or internet access is excluded, and calculators built into phones or tablets are not allowed regardless of function.

AP Exams

The College Board publishes a specific approved list for AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and AP Physics. The TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus CE appear on it. Some AP exams restrict calculator use to certain sections only, so check the policy for your specific subject.

IB

The IB maintains its own approved calculator list, and the TI-84 Plus CE is commonly permitted, though IB coordinators can set school-specific rules on top of the general policy.

GED

The GED math section allows an on-screen calculator built into the test itself for most questions, so an external device often isn’t needed at all. Where a physical calculator is permitted, TI-84 models are commonly accepted, but confirm with your test centre.

The one rule that’s consistent everywhere: an online, browser-based, or internet-connected calculator is not accepted on any of these exams, full stop, regardless of which model it imitates. Use this tool to learn the menus, build muscle memory, and practise problems at home. Bring the approved physical device to the actual test. For the complete 2026 breakdown, see the exam rules — and for test-day tactics, read our strategy guide.

Troubleshooting the TI-84 Calculator Online

The calculator won’t load

If the TI-84 Calculator does not Work, Refresh the page. If it still doesn’t appear, disable ad blockers or script-blocking extensions for this site, since they sometimes strip out the elements the calculator needs to run. Confirm JavaScript is enabled in your browser settings.

My graph screen is blank

Check your WINDOW settings first. If your Xmin, Xmax, Ymin, or Ymax values don’t include the part of the function you’re trying to see, the graph exists but is drawn off-screen. Press ZOOM → ZStandard to reset to a default window and locate your curve from there. Read the full step-by-step fix →

I’m getting a syntax error

This almost always means a missing parenthesis, a missing multiplication sign between a number and a variable, or a negative sign entered with the wrong key. Use the dedicated negative key (usually shown as (-)) rather than the subtraction operator when entering a negative number at the start of an expression.

The calculator is stuck in the wrong mode

Press MODE and check degrees vs. radians, and normal vs. scientific vs. engineering notation. A wrong mode doesn’t crash anything; it just produces answers that look wrong because they’re formatted differently than you expect.

My regression won’t calculate

Confirm your two data lists are the same length. STAT → CALC → 1-Var Stats or LinReg will throw an error if L1 and L2 don’t have matching numbers of entries.

Keyboard input isn’t responding

Click directly on the calculator screen first to make sure it has focus, then try again. If a specific key still doesn’t respond, use the on-screen button for that function instead.

Nothing here fixed it

Refresh the page to reset the session completely — that clears whatever state the calculator was stuck in. If the problem is with the site itself rather than a specific calculation, let us know what happened, and we’ll look into it.

About This Website

This site exists for one reason: a graphing calculator should not be a financial barrier to learning maths. We built a free TI-84 calculator online that loads fast, works on any device, and asks nothing of you in return.

We keep the tool free, run no intrusive advertising on the calculator screen, and do not require an account. We are not Texas Instruments, and we do not pretend to be. We are an independent project that respects what the TI-84 taught a generation of students, and wants to make that experience available to anyone with a browser.

The TI-84 calculator is used worldwide, including by students searching in French for a calculatrice TI en ligne and in Spanish for a calculadora Texas, and we are expanding language support over time.

Found a bug, or want a feature added? Get in touch. Feedback from students and teachers shapes what we build next.
